So...every time somebody says they don't know how to explain how Jared "changed" Danni's soul, I think, "It's called FALLING IN LOVE, o ye of higher brain function!" Oy.
But. Given that they're right, given that Jared is a "soul-shaper" (in a way distinct from loving someone :P )...OH SNAP. This dilemma is BRILLIANT. The only thing that has me siding with Rebecca is a) Jared could in theory manipulate Danni to want other less constructive things, and b) poor Daniel!

You're right, of course, that people's personalities can be affected by falling in love -- or, indeed, by any extended interaction with other humans. It's perfectly normal for people to want to make their loved ones happy. It's another thing entirely for someone's deepest desires to change in response to another person's whims. :)
The deeper ramifications of Jared's talent will be explored in future stories. In particular, some people are immune to his talent, and we'll eventually find out why. And since he's a member of the MCPD staff, you can be sure we'll be seeing a lot more of him as the story shifts back to Kate and David's investigations...
